Create your own Job Map

Creating your own Job Map is a straightforward process using FigJam's whiteboard tool. Follow these steps to create your personalized Job Map:

  1. Start by selecting the Job Map Template in FigJam and invite your customer to define the characteristics of the job to be done.
  2. Encourage the customer to name the job to be done before your one-on-one meeting. Emphasize that it should focus on the job itself, not the situation. For example, "stay updated on world news" instead of "wait in line at the grocery store."
  3. Have the customer identify the inputs and materials needed to accomplish the job.
  4. Guide the customer in drafting sticky notes that represent the steps taken to perform the job. If additional steps are required, they can duplicate and edit the sticky notes accordingly.
  5. Help the customer narrow their focus to a specific part of the job for further exploration.
  6. Inform the customer that although they may have mapped out multiple steps, you will only focus on one. Dive deeper into the desired outcomes and challenges faced to gain more insights into the job at hand. Remind them that there are no wrong answers, and the exercise should not exceed one hour.
  7. Brainstorm with the team to identify ways to make the job process easier and more efficient.
  8. Review the data provided by the customer across all stages as a team. Confirm their priorities and discuss how to address risks related to time, money, and safety.
  9. Assist customers in accessing relevant information to determine their readiness to perform the job and offer alternative approaches to achieve the same outcome.
  10. Explore opportunities to make the step-by-step job faster and more convenient for the customer. Consider changes in timing, meeting demands, and shifting responsibilities from the customer to the organization, aiming for a higher financial return on investment.
